For those travelling from Ipswich the official coaches are leaving Portman Road at 09:00 at a cost of £26 for adults (with concession prices for U23s (£23), U19s (£20) and 65+ (£23)). Coaches are estimated to arrive back at Portman Road at 21:00. Planned stops are at Peterborough Services on the outward journey and Cambridge Services on the return journey.
Coach travel is on sale and can be booked onwww.itfcdirect.com or in Planet Blue (subject to the same priority dates as detailed above under Ticket Sales).
Note that all official coaches are non-smoking and the consumption of alcohol on board is strictly forbidden. ITFC recommend that all supporters under 16 are accompanied by an adult.
Pick-ups/drop-offs at Stowmarket, Bury St Edmunds and Newmarket can be arranged for this game. If you want to organise a pick-up at this location, please call the Ticket Enquiries Team on 03330 050503. Your details will then be passed onto the coach company.
The Sat Nav postcode for the AESSEAL New York Stadium is S60 1AH, but you may want to use the postcode for your chosen car parking option.
To get to Rotherham, the most direct road route is to take the A14 and join the A1 north. From the A1 join the A57 to the M1. Exit the M1 at Junction 33 and take the 3rd exit, signposted A630 Rotherham. At the first roundabout with the junction of A631 take the 1st exit. At the next roundabout (Canklow roundabout) take the 2nd exit and at the next roundabout (Ickles roundabout) take the 2nd exit. After the first set of traffic lights move into the right hand filter lane which comes back on yourself – take the first left into Main Street. Turn right onto Don Street after the council offices and follow the signs for Town Centre Parking.
Watch out for average speed cameras, covering around 25 miles from the east of Cambridge to Huntingdon, including throughout the roadworks section.
The journey normally takes a bit over 3 hours, but it’s best to allow longer in case of delays. This is currently compounded by the various roadworks, including a new, lengthy 40mph section on the A14 around Cambridge from the junction with the A10.
We generally recommend allowing at least an hour beyond the AA / Google / SatNav suggested journey time.
There is no car parking for away fans at the ground, with the exception of pre-agreed disabled parking (see below).
Around the ground there are a number of private parking areas, including a pay and display on Sheffield Road (S60 1DA) and the car park near Riverside House (S60 1EJ). There are numerous other car parks around the town centre, including one near the bus station, which exits onto the main road out of town.
There is some street parking around the area of the old Millmoor ground, which is around a 15 minute walk from the away turnstiles.
Note: There are no planned engineering works on the day of the match.
There are two rail route options, the quickest being to change in Peterborough and Doncaster. Leaving Ipswich at 08:00, you should reach Rotherham at 11:28, whilst the 09:58 from Ipswich gets you to Rotherham at 13:28. After the game, there is a train from Rotherham at 17:42, which gets you back to Ipswich at 21:28. The 18:42 takes longer, though, arriving back in Ipswich at 23:08. The train unit for the leg from/into Ipswich will be just 2-3 carriages.
The second option is via London. The journey time is around 4 hours 15 minutes to Rotherham and between 4 hours 30 minutes and 4 hours 45 minutes on the way back. Trains from London St Pancras require a change in Sheffield whilst you can also travel from London Kings Cross with a change in Doncaster. www.greateranglia.co.uk, for example, shows a train from Ipswich at 08:09 which connects to the 10:02 from London St Pancras and, after a change in Sheffield, you arrive in Rotherham at 12:27.. The 08:43 from Ipswich links to the 10:35 from London Kings Cross - with a change in Doncaster you should arrive in Rotherham at 12:57. After the game there are trains to London at 17:58 (change at Sheffield for London St Pancras), 18:18 (change at Doncaster for London Kings Cross) and 18:42 (change at Doncaster for London Kings Cross). Note that if you put Rotherham to Ipswich into the train planner it may not give all options to London as it only offers trains that it calculates to connect on to Ipswich.
Getting to the ground from the railway station
Rotherham railway station is about a ten minute walk from the ground. There is clear signage to the ground from the station. As you come out of the main station entrance immediately turn right onto Central Road. The road becomes more of a path. At the end turn right and then left into The Statutes. Turn right onto Main Street. Cross Main Street and take the path on the left to the ground.
The Bridge Inn (1 Greasbrough Rd, Rotherham, S60 1RB) is usually considered the away pub. It is about a ten minute walk to the stadium and offers Old Mill Brewery real ale as well as a guest beers.
However, there are a number of pubs and bars in the town centre that allow both home and away supporters. J D Wetherspoons has two pubs in the town centre – The Rhinoceros (35-37 Bridgegate, Rotherham, S60 1PL) and The Bluecoat (The Crofts, Rotherham S60 2DJ). Note, that www.footballgroundguide.com comments that these pubs have more of a home feel about them.
If you are travelling by train with a change at Sheffield, you may have time to pop into the Sheffield Tap on platform 1. Note that football colours are not allowed there, and this is enforced.
Rotherham Town Centre
Rotherham town centre is in walking distance of the stadium and railway station. The Rotherham Minster is right in the heart of the town. As well as shops, including independent retailers, there is a choice of cafes and restaurants.
