Macauley Bonne was born in Ipswich and grew up in Chantry. As a young player he was on the books with Town and Colchester United, before signing a professional contract with the U's.

Macauley spent time on two loan deals in 2016 and 2017 to Lincoln City and Woking respectively, although it was Leyton Orient who were to offer him a permanent deal. Macauley impressed during his time with The O’s, scoring 45 times in his 90 league appearances.
The 2019/20 season saw Charlton Athletic sign Macauley on a three-year deal, where he would go on to notch 11 goals in 36 appearances.
Macauley joined QPR on a three-year deal in October 2020 and scored his first goal for Rangers on his debut, when he came off the bench to score an injury-time equaliser against Sheffield Wednesday.
Signing for Town ahead of the 2021/22 season, Macauley again came off the bench to score on his debut as he fired in late on against Morecambe on the first day of the season.
Macauley is sponsored by Ipswich Witches.
