Alan joined the Blues for an undisclosed fee from Brentford in January 2019 as he finally signed on the dotted line at Portman Road with Town having previously attempted to sign the Irishman on two separate occasions.
The diminutive midfielder has made a handful of caps for the Republic of Ireland and scored his first goal for his country in a 2-1 win over the United States in 2018.
He will wear the number 31.
