AN EYE ON THE IMPS

6 January 2017

A closer look at Town's FA Cup third round opponents

Lincoln City - In Short

Founded: 1884
Nickname: The Imps
Ground: Sincil Bank
Capacity: 10,312
Manager: Danny Cowley
2015/16: National League, 13th

The Imps' Route to the Third Round

Danny Cowley's side begun their FA Cup journey in the fourth qualifying round with a home tie against fellow National League side, Guiseley. After a 0-0 draw at Sincil Bank, the Imps progressed with a 2-1 victory in the replay at Nethermoor Park as Theo Robinson grabbed a double to send his side into the first round proper.

Another home tie, this time against National League North side, Altrincham, awaited Cowley's men in that fixture, and they progressed with a 2-1 win thanks to goals from Sean Raggett and Alan Power.

Oldham were next up in the second round and, with the draw taking place earlier in the day, both sides knew that a trip to Portman Road was the prize for winning the tie. The Imps didn't hang around, and raced into a 3-0 lead at Sincil Bank thanks to a Robinson double, and a strike from Terry Hawkridge, but despite the Latics scoring twice late on to reduce the arrears, it was Lincoln who set up an interesting encounter in Suffolk.
