Blues midfielder to return to action in the Premier League Cup

Luke Hyam will step up his recovery from injury as he will travel as part of the U23 squad to take on West Brom in the Premier League Cup this evening (kick-off 7pm).

The midfielder has been sidelined since the pre-season draw at Cambridge in July, but is closing in on a return to first-team action after a rigorous period of rehabilitation.

Tommy Smith, who completed 90 minutes for the first time since September in last Monday’s 8-0 U23 win over Watford, will also be involved as Gerard Nash’s side look to get off the bottom of Group G having picked up three points in the opening four games.

Andre Dozzell and Ben Morris are also in the squad, as is Tristan Nydam, with the trio having been involved in first-team squads in recent weeks.

The Blues’ only victory in the PLC so far came against the Baggies at Portman Road earlier in the season, with Dozzell and Adam McDonnell on target that day.
