Defender set to miss the rest of the season after injuring his ankle in training

Town have been dealt a major blow by the news that Adam Webster is set for a sustained spell on the sidelines through injury.

The defender, who has impressed during his first season with the Blues, has injured his ankle in training and scans have shown ligament damage, which is set to keep him out for the rest of the season.

Adam missed Tuesday night's FA Cup replay defeat to Lincoln, with the former Portsmouth man heading off for a scan which has confirmed the injury blow.

The Blues have Luke Chambers, Christophe Berra and Paul Digby available to play centre-half at the weekend, with new addition Jordan Spence also eligible. Tommy Smith is still recovering from a back injury.

"Adam's out for the rest of the season through injury," Mick McCarthy told the official Club website.

"He's ruptured his ankle ligaments and it's a big blow for us and for him.

"It's sad for all of us, but more so for Adam as he's had a great season so far. But that's it now, unfortunately his season is over."
