Blues hit six at Portman Road in final game of U23 season

Town rounded off their U23 campaign in style with a resounding 6-0 victory over Coventry City at Portman Road this evening.

Ben Morris and Flynn Downes both grabbed a brace, while Adam McDonnell and Ben Folami were also on the scoresheet.

It took just three minutes for Town to break the resistance of the Sky Blues, with Morris racing through before confidently finishing past Corey Addai.

The striker, who recently spent time on loan with Woking, didn't have to wait long to grab his second as he stabbed home Albert Wilton's cut-back midway through the opening 45 minutes.

McDonnell poked into the net from close range just before the half an hour mark having been played through by Folami as the Blues took a commanding three-goal lead into the break.

Morris was replaced by Jack Lancaster during the interval, and the substitute had a role to play in Blues' fourth goal.

His shot was blocked, and Downes pounced upon the loose ball to finish comfortably.

The tough-tackling central midfielder scored his second ten minutes later following some neat link-up play with Lancaster, as he tapped into an empty net after seeing his initial effort saved by Addai.

Gerard Nash's side kept pushing, and the rout was completed by Aussie forward, Folami, as he scored the pick of the bunch with a powerful, curling effort that found the far corner, ensuring Town would end the 2016/17 season on a high.

Town: Crowe, Woolfenden, Ndaba, Smith, Webber, Blanchfield, McDonnell, Downes, Morris (Lancaster, 45), Folami, Wilton (Meldrum, 75). Subs Not Used: Marsden, Cahill, McGavin.
